We have many retired thoroughbreds at all different ages and skill levels. We work hard to find the appropriate match for the adopter.
Donate supplies, sponsor a retired racehorse, volunteer, foster, or spread the word! We rely on the support of generous horse enthusiasts like you.
Our organization’s goal is to prevent animal slaughtering and offer a more humane alternative at the end of each racehorse’s career.
Certified by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) and the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA), this volunteer-run organization is dedicated to providing retired racehorses second careers in the southeastern US as sport, show, hunt and pleasure horses.
Each horse that comes into our program is evaluated and receives let-down time, rehabilitation if necessary, and retraining — both by our own trainers and through a collaboration with the Averett University Equestrian Studies program. Averett offers a class for juniors and seniors in retraining off-the-track Thoroughbreds, using Blue Bloods horses at our facility.
Blue Bloods Thoroughbred Adoption and Placement is located at the antebellum Melrose Farm in Blanch, NC — near Yanceyville, NC, and just south of Danville, Virginia. The facility has a large arena with all-season footing and jumps, as well as a 1000-acre ride-out.
Tack, horsewear, fly masks and spray, lead ropes, and other every day supplies. Monetary donations always welcome.
Have extra time or a helpful service? We always need help with events, grooming, care, and maintenance.
Spend quality time with one of our horses without the commitment of adoption.
